The Barcelona International Boat Show, which is held from October 12 to 16 at Port Vell, coinciding with its 60th anniversary. An event organized since 1963 by the Fira de Barcelona in collaboration with the National Association of Nautical Companies (ANEN) that brings together the best offer in the sports and recreational nautical sector in Spain. With an extensive program of activities and experiences for all attendees, it is also a driving force for the nautical sector, focusing this year on networking opportunities for entrepreneurs and startups.
Visitors to the 55th edition of the fair, at the España and La Fusta docks in Port Vell, have enjoyed the floating exhibition, with boats over 8m, and the land exhibition, which includes a wide range of nautical products and services, from household appliances, motors, paints, sails, trailers, fishing gear, rental, marine and inflatable boats. Some of the main companies that have already confirmed their participation are Beneteau, CNB-Lagoon, Conade, Fountaine Pajot, Jeanneau, Marina Estrella, Marina Marbella, Metropol Náuticas, Nautic Luis, Sunseeker, Touron, Yamaha and Zodiac.
“The event has once again demonstrated its full potential as the main commercial platform and meeting place for the sports and recreational boating sector in Spain”, stated the president of the show, Luis Conde. He also highlighted that "visitors have a unique opportunity to find out about the latest news and innovations, contact nautical companies, test boats in the water and participate in numerous activities". And all in the privileged environment of Barcelona's Port Vell.
The Barcelona Boat Show is a founding member of the International Federation of Boat Show Organizers (IFBSO), which organizes Fira de Barcelona every year with the support and collaboration of ANEN. In terms of registrations, this year the recreational boat market shows an increase of 3.7% in new boats and 11.5% in the rental market.
“This season the growth of registrations has slowed down compared to the last three years, although we are noticing that the change in the business model and the creation of new companies in the sector, more oriented towards the provision of services and the incorporation of new management technologies is advancing', says Carlos Sanlorenzo, Secretary General of the National Association of Nautical Companies (ANEN).
Networking for start-ups and investors: one of the novelties this year is the creation of a space and support for entrepreneurs and startups associated with the nautical sector, with the celebration of the first Conference on Nautical Entrepreneurs on Thursday, October 13 at the Espai del Mar. Entrepreneurs and representatives of innovation and/or technology Start-ups will have the opportunity to present their projects to potential investors and companies in the sector. There have also been talks by successful entrepreneurs and networking sessions.
Boats: another of the novelties, which has also taken place in the Espai del Mar, is a round table in which topics related to water sports have been discussed. Organized by the College of Naval and Ocean Engineers of Spain, designers of racing boats, crews and other participants involved in nautical competitions will participate in the session. Scheduled for Friday, October 14, the session is part of the 55th Naval Engineering and Maritime Industry Congress. The Espai del Mar will also host presentations on regattas, sailing and the marine environment.
Experience the Sea: With the motto 'Experience the Sea', the show aims to be a center of fun activities and new experiences for sailing fans and those interested in delving into this world. According to the director of the show, Jordi Freixas, 'one of our main objectives is to spread a seafaring culture and show the innumerable opportunities that exist to enjoy it'.
In the Fun Beach area, for example, there was a trial area with access to the sea where young people and families could enjoy initiation sessions in dinghy sailing, canoeing, kayaking and paddle surfing. The 4th edition of the Barcelona SUP Festival is also planned for lovers of Stand Up Paddle Surf. Meanwhile, in the Traditional Sailing area, where classic boats will be exhibited, there will be workshops and activities of interest for the whole family.
The Boat Show has also actively promoted nautical recreation through initiatives such as ANEN's '#embárcate' program, designed for attendees to immerse themselves in everything related to the sea. Another project is Navy Day, an initiative of the Catalan Association of Sports Ports and Tourist Ports (ACPET).
Festive ideas and gastronomy: many exhibitors also organized activities and parties at their stands, mainly on Friday the 14th, coinciding with La Noche Náutica which, for the second consecutive year, featured 'Swimnight & Kayak ' in the port, as well as live music, fashion shows and tastings.
In addition to the OneOcean Club restaurant, the Nautic Food Plaza (restaurant and chill out area) and the Nautic Village by TheCooluxury (a collection of stands with premium products from the world of fashion, art, design and gastronomy) , the hall is scheduled to hold the I Exhibition of Nautical Gastronomy in catamaran to which gourmets may attend only by invitation. Organized by Curt Ediciones, the ship hosted tastings of premium food and beverages, with the best chefs leading discussions and presentations on culinary trends.
